Network Liaison's Handbook
Abstract
Management of large networks usually follows a hierarchical model with delegation responsibility for some functions. At Virginia Tech, Network Infrastructure & Services handles most network management tasks except for the assignment of IP addresses to individual users and the registration of individual hosts. These functions are delegated to Network Liaisons, or NLs. This document describes the functions of the NL and provides some basic instruction on performing the required tasks.
Throughout this document, the terms "department" and "departmental" are used to identify a particular group of network users (also known as an "admin group").
